Old Testament Atrocities Not Really Murder?

Home

Bruce (from dialogue with Roy Casanova):  I think, how Christians adamantly claim that Jesus is one-in-the-same as the God of the Old Testament, but then turn around and try to dissociate Jesus from the countless atrocities and ruthless, bloody, acts that were performed by or ordered by this very God in the Old Testament. I find that very interesting indeed.

AMANDA: I agree that the "ruthless, bloody acts" in the Old Testament do seem quite harsh - until you actually read and find out the reasons behind them.

BRUCE: Yes, of course, how ever could any rational person fail to see the overflowing love, compassion and forgiveness displayed by Jesus when He smote Uzzah, the cart driver, simply because he had reached out to steady the ark of the Covenant to keep it from falling off the cart and getting damaged! (2 Samuel 6:6-7).  Of course, Uzzah should have known better than to touch the ark, since Jesus had clearly warned in Numbers 4:15) that no one but the Kohathites are allowed to touch such "holy things"; and the punishment for defying Jesus' command here (even for such a good cause as protecting it from harm)?  Why death, what else?

This example, of course, is miniscule by comparison to the massive death and destruction we see from God and other "heroes" throughout the Bible!  You're hanging out to dry here, Amanda!
