Divine Addition: 1+1+1 = 1?

Bruce (from dialogue with Roy Casanova):  Who or what died on the cross? If your Jesus is "God," and the one-and-only God at that, then how could he have actually died? If he was "God" and was dead then he couldn't very well have resurrected himself from that state, now could he? If he could then he wasn't really dead to begin with.

AMANDA: God the Son died on the cross and was resurrected by God the Holy Spirit.  Have you forgotten the trinity so quickly in your hate of the only person who will love you unconditionally all your life?

BRUCE: It's fitting that "hate" is such a prominent word in your vocabulary, Amanda, because the term is well-suited to your demeanor.

As for your logically impossible assertion about the trinity . . .  well, all I can say is that you need to learn how to count because where I come from 1+1+1 does not equal 1!  The trinity, we are told, claims that the Father is God, and the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, but they are not three separate Gods but one God!  So if you took away the Holy Spirit, God would not be reduced by a third, but would remain the "one God" complete and unchanged.  That's ridiculous, Amanda!  To quote Robert Ingersoll, "There is nothing more idiotic and absurd than the doctrine of the trinity."

Moreover, Jesus himself never claims to be "God" in the NT (although he makes dozens of statements to the contrary!), and it is not until the council of Nicea, IN THE 4TH CENTURY(!), that Jesus was actually declared to be "fully God."

Also, Amanda, I don't need any mythological wishful thinking in order to have "unconditional love" in life right here in the real world; I have that with the family and friends I share it with and receive it from.  It's a shame you will miss out on so much in life because of the prejudicial walls you build between yourself and those that think differently than you.  What a waste.
