Adam, Eve and Sin |

(from dialogue with Roy Casanova): Roy, suppose I, as a paramedic, were to walk up to a patient and inject her with some unknown green liquid, and then "inform" her that I had just "infected her with a deadly, painful, debilitating disease" ... AMANDA: I think from the above you are talking about God cursing the human race because Adam and Even at the apple, but God did not force Adam and Eve to eat the apple, they decided that on their own. How can you hold God accountable for that? If I decide to kill myself because I found your website to awful to live with, would that be your fault? No, it wouldn't, because it would be my choice, just like it was Adam and Eve's choice. BRUCE: First, it wasn't an "apple" but a "seedless fruit" that was alleged to have been eaten from the mythological Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil by the mythological Adam and Eve. And again, Amanda, I no longer believe in "God" (not yours or any other primitive tribal deity), so I don't hold "Him" accountable for anything! That would be like blaming Zeus for thunder and lightning! It is your belief in such silly mythology as a literal Adam and Eve, and further, a monster such as the God of the Bible that would knowingly setup these "first humans" for failure by (1) placing the "forbidden" tree in the garden to begin with (why place it there at all?); (2) demanding these two immortal humans (because they were "sinless" and therefore without the punishment of death) to not eat of the fruit of this tree (but, being omniscient and all, God would have known in advance that they would eat of it, and thus it was His Will that this should occur); and finally, (3) punishing them for this trap that they were setup to fall into in order that they could be punished for something of which they did not even have a conceptual understanding of yet (i.e., sin)! If sin had not yet entered the world, then how could Adam & Eve be expected to understand what that was? That would be like a school teacher giving a pop quiz to her students today on information that they will be introduced to next week, and then failing them from the entire class should they fail that one pop quiz! Honestly, Amanda; that you actually believe in a literal Adam & Eve and the whole "original sin" fable Christianity has built around "the fall" is evidence enough of the extent to which you have been brainwashed by the church. You would fit right in with the Puritan witch hunters! Bruce Monson |
